Code of Conduct

PREAMBLE:

The rules and punishments set out in this Code of Conduct have been formulated in corroboration with the Secondary school Students, Staff, Executive and Board of Governors.
The aim of these rules is to create an environment in which students can in safety and with pride work to achieve their goals and leave behind them a school with a sound reputation and solid values.
The rules are divided into three groups depending on their severity and the type of punishment meted out for their contravention. In addition, General Organizational Regulations have been included which apply only to Secondary School Students.

EXPECTED STANDARD OF CONDUCTALLEGED MISCONDUCT OR INFRINGEMENTRECOMMENDED MAXIMUM PENALTY
Students will comply with instructions and the general rules of the Academy. Wilful disregard of instructions
Disrespect towards elders, educators, parents and visitors
Hair, dress or apparel which is not in accordance with Academy standards
Behaviour in public or at events which brings the Academy into disrepute
Eating or drinking during class or during sports events when this is prohibited
Trespassing or entering Academy grounds after Academy hours or during holidays

Students will behave responsibly and not endanger the safety and welfare of others Dangerous horseplay
Use of excessive force when playing games or playing games in areas where bystanders and passers-by may be injured
Bullying others or initiation of any sort
Fighting or the threatened assault of others
Being in possession of a weapon or dangerous instrument on Academy premises or at an Academy event
Unhygienic personal habits and the improper use of Academy facilities and ablutions
Tampering with equipment or the property of others
Riding of bicycles/skateboards etc. on Academy property or in areas where prohibited
Noisy behavior or disturbing the activities of others, disruptive behaviour
Being in possession of alcoholic, hallucinogenic or dangerous substances, or distributing, storing or consuming these at the Academy or during Academy events/trips
Being under the influence of alcoholic, hallucinogenic or unauthorized substances, substance abuse
Smoking or being in possession of cigarettes on Academy premises or at Academy events

Students will respect and care for the property of the Academy and others Being in possession of pornographic material
Swearing and use of bad language
Verbal or insulting abuse of others
Malicious teasing of others
Playing of obscene or demeaning games
Being discourteous towards educators or peers or displays of insolence or disrespect
Racial or sexist comments or insults, harassing or victimizing behavior
Indecency, sexual harassment or sexually explicit behavior at the academy, Academy events or with Academy colleagues
Intimidating others or other forms of invasive behavior

Students will be punctual and observe the timekeeping practices of the Academy Unexplained absence from classes
Leaving the Academy premises without permission

Students will demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and be reasonably diligent in their learning efforts Refusal to complete homework assignments or projects
Refusal to hand reports/reply slips etc to parents or to return these to the academy

General uncooperativeness and poor application to studies, Academy work or assignments

Students will demonstrate a positive attitude towards learning and be reasonably diligent in their learning efforts Cheating, copying or tampering with tests, reports or assignments

Possession or distribution of material which may give an unfair advantage in a test or exam
Being in possession of another person's property, attempted theft or removing another person's property from the premises
Bribery, fraud or attempted dishonesty
Forgery or the falsification of documents
